| The venue for the Festival is the OR Tambo recreations centre, located 6 km east of Cape Town International Airport and 20 km from the Cape Town CBD. The centre was built in the mid-90s in preparation for Cape Town’s Olympic bid and is used for many sporting, business, educational and community functions. |  | | | | | | The venue was chosen for a number of reasons: | | | | | | | | | 1. | Its location is ideal for both residents of Khayelitsha and outsiders, as it is central to the Cape Flats and very close to an intersection of the N2 | | | | | | | 2. | Its visibility to motorists on the N2 makes it ideal for branding and communicating the existence of the festival | | | | | | | 3. | The building can accommodate approximately 1 150 sq m of indoor exhibition space and a further 1 000 sq m outdoor. It has the necessary power and water utilities and management offices to stage the event. | | | | | | | 4. | There is plenty of flat outdoor space available for erecting a large entertainment stage suited to music, dance, fashion shows and other activities. | | | | | | | 5. | There is space for catering, outside toilets and emergency medical facilities. | | | | | | | 6. | The OR Tambo Hall and its outside areas can accommodate thousands of people at a time so making it ideal for hosting an event that is sure to attract a lot of visitors | | | |
